What is the challenge?

Ice bucket challenge- dumping bucket of ice cold water(may involve ice cubes as well), also called as ALS ice bucket challenge, is a challenge you have to take if someone requests/nominates/challenges you or else, you have to donate a 100 dollors to ALS association.

What is ALS association?

The ALS Association is an American nonprofit organization that raises money for research and patient services, promotes awareness about and advocates in state and federal government on issues related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The ALS Association is broken up into distinct chapters each servicing a particular geographic area of the United States all working under the umbrella of a national charter and administrator. While each individual chapter is basically autonomous, some smaller chapters rely heavily on the national organization for assistance. Each chapter provides education, advocacy and essential services to ALS patients, their families and caregivers, while the national organization funds research and supports the cause as a whole (from Wikipedia).

From where and who?

We are not sure, who started this challenge, But it was started in United States, in mid 2014 and it went viral over the web and social media. initially, they used to call this task as "cold water challenge" cause, People who takes the challenge, has to jump into cold water otherwise, Has to donate money to organizations.

ALS version involves, dumping/ pouring bucket of ice old water or else, you have to donate a 100 dollars to ALS association. we could see this kinda challenge started in Newzealand, used to get donations for charity (from different web sources) .

How to play?

After being challenged, with in 24 hrs. participants has to film themselves while taking the challenge. First, their acceptance of the challenge is done by pouring ice into a bucket of water. The bucket is then to be lifted overhead and poured over the participant's head. Then the participant can call out a challenge to other people. In another version, Participant is expected to donate $10 if they have poured the ice water over their head and donate $100 if they have not.

How it went viral?

Usually, ALS association films the process of taking the challenge, which can be shared over internet, social sites, is the main reason for this.

However, personalities of US famous TV program 'Morning Drive', performed a live Ice bucket challenge in June'14. this is when, it came to all kinda people when it performed live in  Television. after this so many, famous personalities took the challenge and started posting the videos in their social sites.Aand from this it went to all people and finally all over internet.

In India??

Here in India,  lot of people took the challenge, donated lot of money to ALS association. We have collected some information on how it started in india and list of people who made it popular here.

Indian Tennis player Rohan Bopanna was the one who started this challenge in India after being nominated by former tennis player Amrit Narsimhan. After taking up the challenge, he nominated actor Rahul Bose, sports editor Digvijay Singh Deo and the entire team of Bengaluru Football club.
Bengaluru FC did a group challenge and, in turn, nominated Badminton star Ashwini Ponappa, after,
Sania Mirza took the challenge and challenged fellow Tennis players Cara Black and Mahesh Bhupathi, Yuvraj Singh, her sister Anam Mirza and actor Riteish Deshmukh, thus, taking the challenge from Indian sports to Bollywood.

Bollywood too has not been far behind with Abhishek Bachchan challenging Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and the entire team of Happy New Year. Riteish took it up while shooting for one of his upcoming films. He went on to challenge a few of his friends from the industry.

After this lot of people took the challenge and donated as well, this is really a good spirit of Indian people. and we should encourage this and spread as well. however, there are people who opposes this. thinking, we are least bothered about problems in India and always following the western countries.
